To assist schools in delivering a multi-tiered system of support for all students, Tutor.com and its affiliate company, education services giant The Princeton Review®, are launching High-Dosage Tutoring, which will provide small group tutoring in algebra to accelerate student learning. Developed by education experts and based on the Brown University Annenberg Institute's research-based design principles, High-Dosage Tutoring provides a way for students to make rapid, significant learning gains in algebra, and for teachers to track their progress through Tutor.com's award-winning LEO™ platform. "Every student deserves the opportunity to succeed," said White. "With the relational, frequent, curriculum-based High-Dosage Tutoring model, algebra students who had previously struggled will gain the support they need to overcome interrupted learning and pursue ambitious academic and postsecondary goals."

The evidence is clear that tutoring can help students learn. Researchers have studied many tutoring programs and, over and over, have found strong benefits for students. In fact, we know of few other options for helping individual students catch up to grade level. Tutoring is the best known approach for acceleration and it can simultaneously improve student well-being and engagement in school. However “tutoring” can bring to mind many different types of educational support, and tutoring programs can vary both in their characteristics and in their effectiveness.

In this brief, we present results from a randomized controlled trial of an early elementary reading tutoring program that has been designed to be affordable at scale. During the 2021-22 school year, over eight hundred kindergarten students in a large Southeastern school district were randomly assigned to receive supplementary tutoring with the Chapter One program. The program embeds part-time tutors into the classroom to provide short bursts of instruction to individual students each week over the course of the school year. The consistent presence of the tutors allows them to build strong relationships with students and meet students’ individual needs at the moment they might most benefit from personalized instruction.

Most states as well as the federal government have landed on tutoring as a key strategy to address unfinished learning from the pandemic. Take math, for example. Studies have found that students lost more ground in math during the last school year than any other subject. Students and teachers desperately need support to combat fatigue and accelerate learning. How can schools implement effective math tutoring programs while balancing competing priorities in an ever-changing environment?

Partners with local schools to recruit, educate, and activate corps members to support students and accelerate learning through tutoring in NC's neediest districts. Corps members are paid a living wage by schools to work part-time as high-impact K-3 literacy tutors grounded in the science of reading and reading instruction. Corps members and school administrators benefit from a common recruitment and application process, training, and ongoing support provided by NCEC.

Provided tutoring to 2,000 students in the summer of 2021 and is expanding to 42 sites in fall of 2021. Launched by The College of New Jersey’s School of Education, and paid for by he New Jersey Pandemic Relief Fund and the Overdeck Family Foundation. Over the summer, teacher prep programs provided small group tutoring at least three times per week in local nonprofits such as Boys and Girls Clubs.

Provides tutoring for 1,000 students in grades K-5 in literacy with a focus on relationship-development in its Pilot Program. Tutors are college students and funding is from GEER funds. Tutoring is 1:1 for at least 3 hours each week outside of the school day.

Stipulations include:  - Should address the immediate emergency as well as lay the groundwork for a long-term, sustainable strategy  - Tutors must be qualified (as defined by the Division of Elementary and Secondary Education), trained and provided ongoing support  - Developed for K-6th grade math and reading  - Tutoring curriculum must be aligned with state standards

The U.S. Department of Education’s ED COVID-19 Handbook highlights tutoring as a key strategy for supporting student academic needs and for addressing the impact of lost instructional time due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Funds from the American Rescue Plan can be used to implement high-quality tutoring. In this 90-minute REL West webinar, presenters will discuss tutoring as a way to address opportunity gaps exacerbated by the pandemic. They will share about evidence-based tools developed by Brown University’s National Student Support Accelerator that facilitate district planning, launch, and continuous improvement of effective tutoring programs.
