Dr. John E. Deasy is currently the Executive Vice President for Education at The Wonderful Company. His long career in education and entrepreneurship includes stints as Superintendent of Schools for the Stockton Unified Public Schools; Superintendent of the Los Angeles Unified School District; Board Chair and former CEO of Reset: New Day, New Year, an alternative prison for young men in California; and Editor-In-Chief of The Line, a magazine dedicated to advancing civil discourse about social justice, entrepreneurship, and education. John also served as a Superintendent in Residence for the Broad Center, where he coached Broad Academy current and emerging national education leaders. He maintains a management consulting practice and is active on several boards including those of College Summit, UnboundED, and Cambiar. John is also an Aspen Fellow from the inaugural cohort of the Aspen Institute’s fellowship of entrepreneurs in education and is a senior moderator for the Institute.
John led improvements in each school district that he served as superintendent, propelling student achievement, high school graduation rates, and access rates to high quality courses and schools to historic levels, while simultaneously reducing suspension and drop out rates. He is committed to driving results and building strategies for all youth, but especially those who live in circumstances of poverty and those who have been historically marginalized. John holds BA and MA degrees from Providence College and a PhD from The University of Louisville in Kentucky. He has taught at numerous universities and speaks frequently at state and national events and conferences.
